Hello

I’ve been practicing yoga for over 15 years, exploring many styles along the way. But everything changed three years ago when I discovered Ashtanga — and it was love at first practice. Since then, Ashtanga has become my daily ritual, six days a week, guiding me physically, mentally, and spiritually.

My journey has taken me across the globe to learn from renowned Ashtanga teachers, deepening my understanding through study, practice, and connection. What draws me to Ashtanga isn’t just its strength and discipline — it’s the meditative rhythm, the inner stillness, and the profound transformation it brings to you on the mat and also away from it.

From Art & Activism to Ashtanga

My journey to Ashtanga wasn't linear. I channeled my creativity into a Fine Arts degree, crafting worlds through vibrant colors and textures. Then, I took those skills into the world, becoming a space and light designer, shaping experiences with the flick of a switch and the placement of a lamp. Yet, a deeper fire burned within me – a yearning for social justice. This led me to activism, fighting for gender equality in Egypt. Witnessing the struggles firsthand ignited a passion for understanding the systems that shape our world.

Seeking a deeper understanding, I transitioned to academia. Here in the UK, I delved into the complexities of Gender and Social Policy, earning a PhD in 2019, then getting appointed as a Senior Lecturer at Nottingham trent University. Researching and analyzing fueled my analytical side, but a part of me craved a more holistic connection.

Yoga entered my life about 15 years ago, offering a much-needed sanctuary for my mind and body. The initial exploration of postures brought a sense of calm and physical well-being. Yet, it was only 3 years ago that I truly discovered the transformative power of Ashtanga. The structured practice, with its emphasis on breath and internal focus, resonated deeply. Now, I practice six days a week, feeling a deep connection to the lineage and the community of practitioners around the world.

My path as an Ashtanga teacher began with Andrew Eppler's inspiring 200-hour YTT. His guidance instilled a strong foundation in the practice while encouraging exploration and self-discovery. This was followed by the profoundly enriching experience of studying with Dr. Ramesh Shetty in Mysore for my 300-hour training. Immersing myself in the traditional environment, surrounded by dedicated yogis, pushed me both physically and mentally. Back in the UK, Joey Miles further ignited my passion for the practice. His meticulous approach that combines both the Ashtanga lineage as well as Iyenger's teachings helped me refine my own practice and deepen my understanding of the Ashtanga philosophy.

To deepen my understanding of the practice, I’ve pursued advanced studies with some of the most respected teachers in the Ashtanga and yogic tradition. I completed an intensive anatomy course with the renowned David Keil, gaining valuable insight into the biomechanics of movement and the body’s role in safe, sustainable practice. In Mysore, I had the honour of studying pranayama and mudras under the legendary BNS Iyengar, immersing myself in the subtle, energetic dimensions of yoga.

My learning journey continues through regular study and practice with esteemed teachers such as Lino Miele, Kathy Cooper, Petri Räisänen, Scott Johnson, Sathu Jois, and the ever-inspiring Hamish Hendry. Each of these teachers has shaped my path in unique ways, offering wisdom, guidance, and inspiration that I carry into my daily practice and teaching.

Today, I bring together the diverse threads of my experiences – the creativity from my artistic background, the social awareness honed through activism, and the thirst for knowledge fostered by my academic pursuits – into my Ashtanga classes. Weaving these elements allows me to create a space that is not just physically challenging but also mentally stimulating and emotionally grounding. Sharing this practice and its transformative potential brings me immense joy. It's a privilege to witness students connect with their inner strength, develop self-discipline, and cultivate a sense of peace that transcends the yoga mat.
