Ashtanga 101:The Basics

Whether you choose to attend an Ashtanga Vinyasa class in a bustling city like Los Angeles, London, New York, Paris, Cairo, Sydney, or a quaint town in the middle of nowhere, you can walk into the studio with the confidence that the same method is being taught. And while Ashtanga Vinyasa teachers usually incorporate their insights and experiences, the core of the practice remains unaltered. In a world awash with complexity and chaos, the simplicity of a foundational sequence offers a welcome respite for the mind and body, just the pure essence of movement, breath, and presence. In this simplicity lies a profound beauty that speaks to the essence of yoga itself. Now that I’m dedicated to practicing six days a week, every day of practice unveils something new, a continuous discovery that motivates me to wake up every morning looking forward to my practice, knowing there’s always more to uncover and explore. As David Williams once said, “Before you’ve practiced, the theory is useless; after you've practiced, the theory is obvious.”
